How to use face and body treatment oils?

Essential oils have always been synonymous with aromatherapy, spa visits or home diffusers. In fact, many of us would avoid putting oils on ourselves — especially when it comes to our faces. However, did you know that essential oils have their own boosting and beneficial elements when used properly?

What are Essential Oils?

We may be familiar with plant extracts that are ever-present in our skincare and makeup products. This is achieved when compounds are extracted from plants (such as the bark, leaves, herbs and rinds) to capture the plant’s scent, or flavour in distilled form, either via steam, water or mechanical methods such as cold pressing. In short, it captures the ‘essence’ of the plant, ready to be combined with an oil that is ready to use, such as in your moisturisers, lotions and more.

While essential oils are typically too potent to be used on its own, you can mix them into your favourite cream, moisturiser or other carriers. Clarins has produced several ready-to-use essential oil-infused products that make it so much easier to reap the benefits of these extracts.

Face Treatment Oils

There is a vast array of face treatment oils to choose from, and all of them offer a wide range of benefits that can target specific skin issues such as scars, acne and more. The key here is to use it properly.

Here are some of the products from Clarins that you can incorporate into your skincare every morning and night, each targeting different skin issues.

For dehydrated skin

To tone, revitalise and restore radiance to dry and dehydrated skin, the Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil works best. With 100% pure plant extracts that comprise Rosewood, Patchouli, Blue Orchid, and Hazelnut Oil, usage helps to retain moisture, and reduce the appearance and formation of fine lines. This face oil is suitable for both dry and combination skin.

For dry, irritated or stressed skin

Dry skin makes your skin susceptible to irritation as well as sensitivity, making it harder to treat especially since any product can potentially be abrasive and trigger the skin. The Santal Face Treatment Oil soothes and relieves dry to extremely dry skin, as its extracts from Sandalwood, Cardamom and Lavender work together to tone, soothe, comfort and decongest the skin. Hazelnut Oil works to calm the skin and restore it to a neutral state by softening, smoothing and reducing redness.

For combination or oily skin

Those with combination or oily skin may think it best to avoid oil altogether, but even these types of skin can benefit from essential oils. The key is to use a face oil that works to balance the skin, such as the Lotus Face Treatment Oil. Formulated with Clarins’ exclusive blend of Rosemary, Geranium and Lotus extract, it works to purify skin, tighten pores and refine skin texture, while the Hazelnut Oil softens, soothes and seals in moisture to prevent fine lines and moisture loss.

Treatment oils for the body

The face shouldn’t be the only element that is deserving of some tender loving care. The body also needs some attention, especially if there are certain concerns that can be treated with body treatment oils. Ideally used two to three times a week, here are some benefits that you can get out of Clarins’ line of treatment oils for the body.

For firming and removal of stretch marks (pregnancy-friendly)

We all love a product that goes way back and is historically known for being a go-to product. For decades now, since 1965, to be exact, the Tonic Body Treatment Oil has been the holy grail for pregnant women. If it is safe for pregnant women, you will know that it is the real deal. Its blend of plant extracts that include Rosemary, Geranium and Mint helps to firm, tone and improve skin elasticity, and Hazelnut Oil leaves the body softer, smoother and reduces the appearance of stretch marks. Besides, its divine scent makes for a very calming and therapeutic ritual.

For detoxifying purposes

Body contouring and moisturising effects aside, the Contour Body Treatment Oil doubles up a detoxifying agent. With 100% pure plant extracts including Broom, Geranium and Marjoram, the oil helps to eliminate toxins and prevents sponginess. Consider this a perfect treat for tired days, or when you need a really good massage.

For relaxation and smoothing

Create the spa ambiance and effect at home with the Relax Body Treatment Oil, a formulation that includes Geranium, Petit Grain, Camomile and Basil to counter stress and tiredness. Apart from leaving your body silky-smooth, it leaves a relaxing and lingering scent and also provides relief for tired muscles after exercise. While you are at it, smooth away dry and old skin with the Tonic Polisher, which has a unique blend of Rosemary oil, salt crystals, mint and sugar to help scrub away and polish dull skin. Once your new skin has been uncovered, apply a generous amount of the Tonic Body Balm, which will give your skin a toned-up and smooth appearance.
